Pups, Pups, Pups

I thought I'd take this time to document about the pups that are going round Swindon at the moment. As its nearly spring and the sun is slightly shining, we are seeing alot more '10 whelps getting to the track. We are fortunate at the track to have some cracking British Bred pups grading on, and running well in their graded races:

Droopys Maldini x Sofem

The success of the first litter out of Droopys Vieri has seen the birth of a new batch of offspring out of the dam Sofem, and they're certainly coming on very well. From what I've seen of the pups, they have a very good racing brain, in that they're able to go inside and outside of dogs, and don't run particularly 'puppyish'. They're only May '10's, however a couple have already hit A2 grade, and they've posted plenty of wins between them.

Admittedly I have rather a soft spot for Brizzle Blue. However, I know he is just overcoming a few problems he has. I also think Tseal could be half handy over six bends. I think he has masses of potential over the trip, as he has a good racing head and is able to get out of trouble. Again, they're only babies, you don't want to be rushing them!

All the pups have been bought on very well by Alan and Debbie McDowell, and I wish them every success.

Crash x Swift Jade

Swift Jade, to those that don't know, is possibly one of the greatest marathon performers of the 21st century, having raced at a time when the 8 bend scene was particularly hot. She ran (and beat) some of the best including Spiridon Louis. Thus, a further career as a brood has beckoned.

One of the stars of an already impressive litter, in my eyes, is Gemstone Jack. He has his mothers trademark trapping ability (none whatsoever), however his craft to weave through the pack will have him set for life if he can keep out of crowding. As soon as he learns that the right foot goes in front of the left foot I think he could (potentially) be a marathon performer, and a good one at that.

There are also pups with Don Elliott and Pete Swadden, respectively named Law Together and Wise Jade. Together has been running brilliantly through the grades and recently won by over 5 lengths in A5. Jade is just starting her grading trials, and will be sprinting on Tuesday.

Again, the pups haven't been rushed, and are a credit to both their trainer Kevin Hutton, breeder Pat Robson and Sara Monk.

Westmead Hawk x Silbury Dominie

I feel these pups have sort of slipped under the radar really, but I think that Silbury Campion has absolutely masses of potential. These pups started their life with Caroline Gomersall, however moved to the McDowell kennel after Caroline's training career finished. Since then, they've just graded on to the track and have had a pretty decent start to racing life.

Though admittedly there are a group of pups running at Crayford that aren't performing particularly well, the batch that are at Crews House Kennels are fairing much better. As said before, particularly in my eyes Silbury Campion has a lot of potential. He's so far won two races, performing particularly well last time out. Doing 29.41 for a pup is great, and fingers crossed these can come good.
